day 1, year 2010

NYE in the north american world is too quiet for me. The three times that I’ve spent the holidays (christmas and new years) here always made me homesick. BADLY. It it just not the same. No misa de gallo (midnight masses), puto bumbong (a filipino delicacy — only during the christmas season), no firecrakcers on the streets, no street parties and massive block countdowns…. *sigh* but regardless, I have always tried to make it as much fun as possible. I guess as long as there’s alcohol (and good company, of course) I’m settled.

2009 went by quick and it brought about a whirlwind of events from calamities to meeting new acquaintances, to break-ups, to hook-ups. Losing jobs, getting new ones, acing exams, failing subjects, time and a half pays, maxing out credit cards, getting drunk and getting high. It was a full-on twister and must I say, it was a good mix of happy and sad moments. Nevertheless, the dawn of a new year has come and it only means one thing: OPPORTUNITIES. For this year, I’d like to start things over with a clean slate. I have ditched the traditional new years resolutions for they’re getting old and whenever someone asks me, I just say “heck, I’ll just wing it!” Why not? If we want to do something, we will just do it with no need for proclamations. Whatever the circumstances are, we just follow with the flow. I will just embrace the new challenges, opportunities, and blessings this year will offer me. This is not the time to look back and regret. We have to keep moving forward and the only way to do that is by learning from past mistakes and applying them in this new journey. However, let’s treasure the happiest moments of the past year for these will serve as our inspiration and motivation. Cheers to the past and drink to the future.

In a nutshell, let’s all be grateful for the wonderful lessons and experiences 2009 has given us. Tears and laughter, we fought through it all and I’m sure of it that we can do much much better this year. Let’s OWN this year and make the best out of it.
